If you have ever visited San Francisco, California, you already know the incredible charm and enduring allure that makes San Francisco a remarkable and memorable place to visit. Whether you visit for a day, a week, or a month, you will not run out of things to do or new places to see. The “city by the Bay” is home to many landmarks, tourist attractions, and a thriving metropolitan area with sports, theater, music, and many cultural attractions.

San Francisco is a beautiful town, at the San Francisco Bay, with incredible ocean and mountain views, a cosmopolitan city environment, outdoor and active endeavors surrounding the city, and so much more.

Active people who visit San Francisco will enjoy running, biking or walking across the Golden Gate Bridge, hiking in Muir Woods, taking a tour of Sausalito, sailing or boating in the bay, walking through the tightly twisting Lombard Street (“the crookedest street in the world”). The Golden Gate bridge is breathtaking in itself, and it provides unparalleled views of the city of and of Marin County for those who take the time to walk or bike the bridge. Although cars pay a toll, pedestrians and bikers cross the bridge for free!

There are many noteworthy places to see and things to do that you need to have on your list, such as a ferry ride, a tour of Alcatraz, a stop in Chinatown to sample the ethnic cuisine, relaxing at the beach, dinner or lunch at Fisherman’s Wharf, ice cream at Ghiardelli square, a tour on the trolley or cable cars that are themselves a mobile landmark of San Francisco.

If you have never heard of postcard row, the “painted ladies” or Alamo Square, you will certainly want to drive or walk by these beautiful Victorian homes, all lined up tightly on an elevated street, each one reaching slightly higher above the previous one. They create a familiar and memorable scene that have been part of many postcards and movie scenes. Don’t forget your camera, as this is something you will want your own memory of.

If you like wine, or even if you just appreciate the beauty, history, and hard work that vineyards represent, you may want to take a driving trip to see the vineyards in Sonoma or Napa Valley. Wine tastings are a fun and memorable experience to add to your trip, and the beautiful rolling hills of the vineyards are well worth seeing. One vineyard recommended by SanFranVisitor.com is Chateau St. Jean in Sonoma County.
